The way I acted
when we were together:
it puzzles me still,
and this is coming from me,
the one who did.

I acted like I hated you
and tried to be quite sincere
in what I meant when I said it.

But still, you had a pull on me
for too much time.
I kept running back
in circles
every time I'd leave.

And you always had
that goddamn laugh of yours
that you always cursed me with too.
But I'm honestly sure
that looking back on it now,
it was a blessing in a guise.

One day you decided
that your petty popularity
should trump my feelings.
Fake it till you make it?
Not the case at all.
You faked it till you broke me.

And as all the slanders came my way
who to blame, but you?
And that stupid grin of yours
and the stupid conversation we had
the night before.

But alas alack, 'twas not to be;
the ship has long sunk,
and drifted off to sea.
